For years the Capitola Book Café has been committed to a strong and comprehensive author and events series. We feature about ten events per month and generally draw audiences of 50 or more. These events are advertised in at least one of the following: San Francisco Chronicle, Santa Cruz Sentinel, San Jose Mercury, Good Times, Metro Santa Cruz or El Andar. Recent authors featured include: Sandra Cisneros, John McEnroe, Eric Schlosser, Carl Hiaasen, Barbara Ehrenreich, Rick Bragg, Christopher Hitchens, Frank McCourt, Anne Lamott, Bill Bryson, David S. Broder, Bailey White, Neal Stephenson, Peter Mayle, Richard Rodriguez, Terry Tempest Williams, Ivan Doig, Francine Prose, Barry Lopez, Henry Louis Gates Jr., and Frances Mayes. Each of these events had more than 150 in attendance. In general, our audiences are composed of active and highly literate people who look forward to engaging the authors with questions and comments. Invariably, the authors we feature praise both the intelligence of our audiences and the comfortable atmosphere of our store.
