The Capitola Book Cafe is an independent bookstore
that has been operating in Capitola, California since 1980. We are situated
on the northern coast of Monterey
Bay, about 90 minutes from San Francisco and 30 minutes from San
Jose. Our county, home to 275,000, includes a high Latino population
and encompasses the University
of California at Santa Cruz and Cabrillo College. In addition to
a strong computer and high-tech industry, our area is also known for
the great weather
and beaches that make it one of California's most popular tourist
destinations.
We have 5,400
square feet of floor space and an inventory of 65,000 titles. Though
our largest sections are Fiction, Politics, Foreign Language, Business,
Computers and Children's, we also have an excellent selection of greeting
cards, magazines, and foreign and domestic newspapers.
For years the Capitola Book Cafe has been committed
to a strong and comprehensive author series. We feature twelve to fifteen
events per month and generally draw audiences of fifty or more. In general,
our audience is composed of active and highly literate people who look
forward to engaging the authors with questions and comments. Invariably,
the authors we feature praise both the intelligence of our audience
and the comfortable atmosphere of our store.
