Cycling Home from Siberia: 30,000 miles, 3 years, 1 bicycle (Paperback)

By Rob Lilwall
$14.99
ISBN-13: 9781451607864
Availability: Usually Ships in 1-5 days
Published: Howard Books, 4/2011
Other Editions of this Title
RECOMMENDED BY Marcia: Only mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the midday sun – or set out on a 30,000-mile bicycle trip beginning in autumn through eastern Siberia. But it gets better. Lilwall cycles on the same bike (he’s named it Alanus) through some of the world’s most dangerous places on his way back to England – Papua New Guinea, Tibet (in winter) and Afghanistan spring to mind. And he does it all with humility and frugality, even finding the love of his life in Hong Kong. She waits for him in London, where they will marry. This is absolutely the most remarkable & enjoyable travel memoir I’ve ever read.

The Outside of a Horse (Hardcover)

By Ginny Rorby
$16.99
ISBN-13: 9780803734784
Availability: Usually Ships in 1-5 days
Published: Dial, 5/2010
Other Editions of this Title
RECOMMENDED BY Lori: Hannah and her father both need to heal. Hannah’s father has returned from Iraq with the loss of his leg and PTSD. The author takes a different approach – what heals the horse can heal the human. This book is very touching and has piqued my interest in 'Parelli' natural horsemanship.

The Hunger Games Trilogy Boxed Set (Hardcover)

By Suzanne Collins
$53.97
ISBN-13: 9780545265355
Availability: Usually Ships in 1-5 days
Published: Scholastic Press, 8/2010
RECOMMENDED BY Melinda: If you haven’t read this series yet, it’s high time you did. Tuck away – we’ll wait for you. To start, Katniss is chosen to represent her poverty-stricken district in the Hunger Games. As she fights for her life in a surreal reality show/death match gone wrong, her world outside of the Arena begins to change as well. This is a great crossover series, and deserves to sit alongside Harry Potter and Pullman’s His Dark Materials in its ability to be read and enjoyed on many different levels. Truly brilliant – an inescapable read. And soon, a movie, so get reading!

Faithful Place (Paperback)

By Tana French
$16.00
ISBN-13: 9780143119494
Availability: Usually Ships in 1-5 days
Published: Penguin (Non-Classics), 6/2011
Other Editions of this Title
RECOMMENDED BY Jill: Tana French is my new favorite author. All her novels are tightly written and totally absorbing. Faithful Place is her third mystery/thriller and possibly the best yet. Full of twists and turns, characters you love and characters you love to hate. The suburban Irish setting is different and intriguing. Frank left home at 19 and never wanted to go back, but now he is forced to deal with the events that drove him away and the family he was trying to escape. Carve a couple of days out of your schedule because you won't want to put this one down!

The Passage (Paperback)

By Justin Cronin
$16.00
ISBN-13: 9780345504975
Availability: Usually Ships in 1-5 days
Published: Ballantine Books, 4/2011
Other Editions of this Title
RECOMMENDED BY Patrick: It’s a book about vampires, but that’s not the whole story; it’s a book about the vampire Apocalypse! Combining rich characterization, interesting plays on classic vampire tropes, and some truly chilling moments, The Passage is a great return to form for vampire/horror fiction. While the book never loses its sense of impending dread, the last 400 pages really show what this series is capable of. It's a must read for any vampire fan, especially fans of vampires that DON'T sparkle.

A Game of Thrones: A Song of Ice and Fire: Book One (Paperback)

By George R.R. Martin
$17.00
ISBN-13: 9780553386790
Availability: Usually Ships in 1-5 days
Published: Bantam, 8/2010
Other Editions of this Title
RECOMMENDED BY Ben: A Game of Thrones is the first book in the Song of Ice and Fire series. Martin has done tons of research and studying, using his knowledge to create an amazing world that depicts human nature in all its aspects. Set in a feudal period on his self-created (and geographically correct) world, each chapter is written in third person focusing on one main character who by no means is guaranteed to survive for any amount of time. This is a masterpiece, my all-time favorite series, and I highly recommend it.

Room (Paperback)

By Emma Donoghue
$14.99
ISBN-13: 9780316098328
Availability: Usually Ships in 1-5 days
Published: Back Bay Books, 6/2011
Other Editions of this Title
RECOMMENDED BY Tamera: I am cheering for this book! Rarely do I have time to read a book in two days; for this one, not only did I chisel out extra reading hours, I didn’t want it to end. I was hesitant to even start reading Room because of the wretched nature of the plot, but now I am rejoicing at the quality of this novel. I won’t be giving anything away when I say that by the end of the book, young 5-year-old Jack, the narrator, has stolen your heart, and its worth the read.

Cloud Atlas (Paperback)

By David Mitchell
$15.00
ISBN-13: 9780375507250
Availability: Usually Ships in 1-5 days
Published: Random House Trade Paperbacks, 8/2004
Other Editions of this Title
RECOMMENDED BY Dana: I love anything by this author but Cloud Atlas is my holy grail of literary genius by Mr. Mitchell. Seven stories, seemingly unrelated and taking place both centuries and continents apart, weave an intriguing tale of the human experience, from an old man losing his mind (or is he?) to a future apocalyptic island existence. Stunning use of language and rich in visual description – an AMAZING read. Experience the book before the film comes out later this year.
